Create a one-of-a-kind ‘frame-able’ art piece.

THE LOST ART OF THE GREETING CARD

Instruction by: Dannie Engwert

Friday, April 11th | 10:00-noon

Wrap up your busy week, and welcome in the inspiring spring season with a bit of card making!

These days, artfully designed greeting cards can be thought of as ‘one-of-a-kind’, original art pieces. Since art is an expression from the heart, a handmade greeting card can be a gift in itself. Creating handmade cards can help bring back the genuine thought and sentiment that was once infused in the correspondence sent and received from loved ones, in person or, via ‘snail-mail’. Today, our fast-paced society is loaded with computer generated, digital ‘greetings’ and text-messages. The physical ‘card’ has fallen by the wayside… and the creation of which has unfortunately, become a lost art.

This two hour workshop was designed to teach individuals how to design and create their very own original cards, using both the iris folding and collage techniques. Dannie will provide step-by-step demonstrations and instruction throughout the workshop along with all of the supplies you will need.

All you’ll need to bring is your favorite pair of scissors (if you have some) with your name marked.

All other supplies will be provided.

All Skill Levels Welcome

Meet artist Susan Darwin at her Fairhaven Town Center art exhibit, in beautiful Fairhaven Center (exact location TBA), and hear her talk about what inspired her latest series, The East Coast Paintings. Ask the artist questions about what inspired the huge lobster, the one-clawed blue crab, the sand shark, two conch shells, or the several land/seascapes of Newfoundland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York and Florida. Then, venture the short distance to the Art Loft Studio (7 Water Street) for a creative workshop based on the exhibit using natural objects, photos, drawings and memory as reference.

The session is suitable for all-ages and includes drawing, painting and gluing with artist-grade materials. Each participant will be able to select an art card from the exhibit and will take home their unique archival piece of art that will last a lifetime… and then some.
